Visa Application
1. Visa Application Abroad
To ensure students can successfully come to Taiwan for study, please make sure to complete the visa application according to regulations.
Students who have received the official admission notice from our university must apply for a visa at the nearest Taiwan Embassy, Consulate, or Representative Office.
- Degree students: Apply for a Resident Visa.
- Short-term or exchange students: Apply for a Visitor Visa.
⚠️ Students who plan to stay in Taiwan for more than 6 months must apply for a Resident Visa. ⚠️
2. Types of Visa
📍 Resident Visa
- Applicable to degree students (Bachelor, Master, or PhD programs).
- For students staying in Taiwan for more than 6 months.
- Students entering Taiwan with a Resident Visa must apply for an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) at the local National Immigration Agency (NIA) service center or the Foreign Affairs Section of the police department within 15 days after arrival.
- Application fee: NT$1,000.
📍 Visitor Visa
- Applicable to non-degree students (short-term study, exchange students).
- Normally valid for 60 days, and can be extended up to 2 times (maximum extension of 30 days each).
- If needed, students must later convert to a Resident Visa (conversion fee: NT$3,200).
📍 Tourist Visa
- Students who enter Taiwan with a Tourist Visa cannot directly convert it to a Resident Visa in Taiwan.
- They must leave Taiwan first, then apply for a Resident Visa at the nearest Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office abroad before re-entering Taiwan for study.
3. Required Documents for Resident Visa Application
- Original and photocopy of passport (valid for at least 6 months)
- Completed visa application form
- Two 2-inch photos
- Admission letter or official acceptance notice
- Original and photocopy of health certificate
- Original and photocopy of proof of financial support
- Original and photocopy of highest diploma and transcript (must be authenticated by a Taiwan Embassy or Representative Office abroad)
- Other relevant documents
📌 Reminder: The application process may take about 1 month. Please prepare early to avoid affecting your registration.
4. Important Notes
- Students who fail to obtain a Resident Visa beforehand may enter Taiwan with a Visitor Visa and then apply for a Resident Visa at the Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA) (conversion fee: approx. NT$800).
- Students who enter with a Tourist Visa cannot convert it to a Resident Visa within Taiwan; they must leave the country and reapply abroad.
- Students holding a Resident Visa or ARC who plan to leave Taiwan temporarily must apply for a Re-entry Permit in advance to avoid the need to apply for a new visa.
